15 Minute Calorie Burning Fitness- How To Get Fit Quick Right At Home
Back in December I started blogging for Nutrisystem and have done amazing , I have lost 25lbs ! While I am happy with that, I know it could be so much more. I was slacking on getting my exercise because I live in Maine and the winter was so cold and yucky that getting outside was not really an option, unless of course it was to shovel! We go sledding occasionally , but nothing regular. So I found myself needing to be creative and find ways around the house to burn some calories !
I use an arm band from Body Media and it is a life saver. It tells me everything and what it was saying was get more steps in and burn more calories. I started to do some research on what burns how many calories. Here is a small list you can use to calculate yours : Calories Burned Per Activity. One thing I found out while researching is that it can actually be more beneficial to workout fast and hard rather than slower and more moderate. That works for me !
Use The Stairs – I would run up and down the stairs (a set of 15) for 5 minutes as fast I could. This cardio burned as many calories as using a treadmill on a fast walking speed for 15 minutes.
Use Hardwood floors- Here is a silly fun one , I put on my slippery socks and skated back and forth across my hardwood floors in an ice skating motion, full arms and all. Crazy, I know but it works ! My heart rate was up and I burned a lot of calories.
Use Your Kids – I wish I had it in me to just pull out the playstation and use the dance game by myself, but I don’t so I grab my daughter and a 15 minute session burns over 100 calories !
Use Your Home – Believe it or not you can burn a ton of calories by cleaning your house ! Start from one end and go to the other non stop doing as much as possible in 15 minutes, trust me, you will be surprised at how winded you are. It works !
Use Your Dog- Ok this one was not an indoor exercise, however it was still a really good work out ! I would throw in my big heavy winter boots, grab the dog and walk her around the house and yard for 15 minutes. Doing this burned as many calories as walking on the treadmill for 40 minutes!
Use Your Body – The best thing I found out when researching (and wearing the Body Media arm band) is that I burn on average 90 calories per hour while sleeping. SLEEPING ! So a good 8 hours can burn 720 calories ! How awesome is that?
You have to burn 3,500 calories MORE than what you eat to lose a pound. No wonder it is so hard! So , for example :
I eat 1,200 calories a day. That is 8,400 calories a week.
To lose 1 pound a week I have to burn 500 calories MORE than what I eat each day. (500 x 7 =3,500) .
That means burning 1,700 calories a day , subtract the 720 from sleeping = 980 . Now you know why I came up with so many crazy ideas to get moving!
If none of this works or you need more of a workout , you can always join the gym!
A lot of times a gym will give you a free assessment, a trainer for a week or EVEN free sign up with a FREE week gym pass !
