Updating an Aging Home
Our home was built in 1955 and it shows its age daily. I see weathered siding, shingles, windows that leak air and doors that often presented an arctic draft before my husband added some pieces to them to trap the warm air inside and keep the cold out.
We have been talking recently about updating the exterior of our home and this includes quite a few projects. We want to make sure that our home lasts because it is not only our home but was the home of my husband’s grandparents and they raised their family here so it is definitely sentimental for a lot of reasons.
On the list of things to do includes everything that I mentioned above; windows, doors, siding, shingles. We also want to guarantee that pests stay away from our home because one thing that I do not get along with is bugs. I can’t stand anything creepy and crawly that may enter our home. Outdoor pest control is something that I am really big on and believe that prevention is such a huge part of the cure. I want to be certain that no bugs are around our home especially now that we have 2 young children here.
I also want to be sure that the plants and gardens that I am preparing remain pest free because let’s face it; who wants to work so hard on beautiful gardens to have pests come and wreck it all? I know I don’t. Ain’t nobody for time for that!!
Knowing that our family is protected from the nasty pests that often invade especially during the summer months in Virginia. We are always inundated with annoying pests, especially mosquitoes and stink bugs. Let me tell you I hate them all! I know they are all creatures just like we are, but coming inside from an afternoon of fun with my boys and having to take a dose of Benadryl is just annoying.
I plan to blog about our home renovations in the coming year, especially the outdoor ones and can’t wait to share with everyone our before and after photos. I have already started some minor painting projects and shared those on Instagram for anyone who may be interested in following.
What projects do you have planned around your home this year? I am really excited for where this year is taking us and our family and see so many adventures mixed into our renovations
