Studies have shown that cannabis extracts can help cannabis addicts stop using the drug by fighting off the withdrawal symptoms. Cannabis contains a psychoactive substance called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which gets users high. While THC tends to increase anxiety, CBD makes people calmer and gets rid of the toxic effects of THC. According to Dr. Val Curran of University College London, the number of people seeking help because they cannot quit smoking cannabis has risen in the past decade and it is linked with the use of the more potent form known as skunk. About 1 out of 10 cannabis users get addicted despite cannabis being seen as a soft drug. Addiction gives users withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety and insomnia when they try to stop.

Use of CBD for medicinal purpose in England

Suppliers have to obtain a license to sell CBD as medicine in England and Wales. Users who need medicinal CBD should get it from well-known and trusted sources such as berkshirecbd hemp flower. They can choose to have CBD in any of the different forms available. However, some manufacturers have been avoiding the lengthy and strict process of obtaining a medical license by selling it as a food supplement

Tests that have already been done regarding CBD

Dr.Curran’s team carried out a trial that took four weeks, and it involved 82 people categorized as severely addicted. The addicts were given CBD for four weeks to alleviate withdrawal symptoms to help them quit smoking. Each one was given one of the three different doses of CBD or placebo capsules and psychological support after which they were to report back in six months to provide a urine sample.

The lowest dose of 200mg did not work. The middle dose of 400mg gave the best results as it halved the amount of cannabis the addicts used compared with placebo as it was shown by urine tests for THC. This dose also doubled the number of days when people had no THC in their urine. The highest dose of 800mg was less effective than the 400gm dose.

Use of cannabis for treatment

The researchers said in a statement on the UCL website that there is no pharmacological treatment for cannabis addiction. They also stated that if they found a safe, effective medicine, it could improve treatment in a similar way that various medicines have improved the rates of stopping tobacco use.

Converging preclinical and human research suggests that CBD is a highly promising treatment with excellent tolerability and safety because it reduces anxiety. CBD contains less than 0.2 percent of THC and it is available over the counter in oil, pill, and topical forms. Although cannabis is said to have medicinal properties like relieving inflammation, pain, and anxiety, there is no scientific evidence.

Conclusion

CBD can be used to treat cannabis addicts. To obtain medicinal CBD, high-quality hemp flower is hand-trimmed, slowly dried, and then allowed to rest for a 60-day slow cure period. The product is finally lab-tested to ensure that it contains less than 0.3% THC. It is advisable to obtain medicinal CBD products from reputable suppliers to ensure that they are pure and high-quality to give you the desired results.
