As a part time working mom of four kids I am constantly looking for ways to cut costs in our grocery budget and stretch our pennies while also feeding our large family as many healthy foods as possible! In the summer months, we grow as many fresh fruits and veggies as we’re able to in our own back yard. We’re blessed with wonderful neighbors, friends and family members who love to share their summer veggie harvest with us as well! Oftentimes I was left with veggies coming out of our ears! They’d wind up going bad before I was able to use them all. Any type of waste drives me insane, especially fresh grown, healthy, free food! Enter… vacuum sealer! I was a little intimidated by the idea of vacuum sealing because I’d never tried it before. It’s not that it’s complicated or anything, just a new concept to me! I know, I know, I must be from a foreign planet! How could I have never used a vacuum sealer in my 30+ years?! I’ve watched others use theirs. I’ve received packages of vacuumed sealed goodies but I’ve never had my own vacuum sealer. The Crenova V62 came to the rescue and I learned just how easy vacuum sealing and re-sealing bags truly is! There’s nothing scary or intimidating about it. The V62 comes with everything you need to start vacuum sealing your own food! Through a little research I learned that by vacuum sealing your food not only does it preserve the food longer but you save space in your fridge/freezer and the food maintains the flavor better!
I couldn’t wait to open it up and give it a go. I pulled the vacuum sealer out of the box along with a package of vacuum seal bags, an attachment to vacuum seal cannisters and of course, the instruction manual. I wanted to start with something simple. Carrots! Between my snacks, crockpot recipes and our bunny rabbit we are ALWAYS buying and going through pounds of carrots. How convenient would it be if I could peel, cut and vacuum seal the proper portion for one of my crockpot dinner recipes? After plugging the vacuum sealer in, I got to work peeling and chopping the carrots and then I placed them into the pre-made bag. I wanted to vacuum AND seal this package so I properly placed the open end of the vacuum seal bag into the machine and pressed the top down until I heard it click shut. I made sure to pay attention to the button selection, chose the vacuum AND seal option, and watched the magic happen!
In a matter of seconds that little machine had sucked all of the air from the package and sealed the bag of carrots with just the touch of a button. Yes folks, it was THAT simple. I waited until the blue indicator light went off and I popped the top open to remove the vacuum sealed bag! I immediately began searching for other things I could seal with my new vacuum sealer! Bags of chips, cereal the options go on and on! No more stale food being tossed out because the chip clip didn’t do it’s job. I’m going to leave the V62 on my countertop to use as needed each day. It’s small and lightweight which means it won’t be taking up tons of space and it’s not going to be in the way of my day-to-day routine in the kitchen.
The V62 is essentially portable and can be used anywhere there is an electric outlet. There is a variety of functions for the vacuum pipe which is included. It can be used to vacuum seal food cannisters, wide mouth jars and even as a wine stopper. The V62 has two working modes. It’s equipped with a vacuum seal mode and a seal only mode. More compatible than most 11” vacuum sealers, the appliance supports up to 11.6” wide heat-seal bags and rolls. The V62 model is very user friendly. Just one click of the vac/seal button, the appliance will automatically get your food vacuumed and sealed in as little as 8 seconds. The ‘Stop’ button gives control of removing air for some special foods such as bread, crisps and soft fruits.
