About Daphne & Velma
Jinkies! Your favorite mystery solving teenagers are back in an all-new, live-action feature length movie!
State of the art robots and high-tech gadgets are common sights at Ridge Valley High, an innovative center of learning for some of the brightest minds in the country, including new transfer student, the bright & optimistic Daphne Blake (Sarah Jeffery) who is excited to finally go to school with her online bestie, the whip-smart & analytical Velma Dinkley (Sarah Gilman). But not everything is as innocent as it seems as mysterious disappearances begin to plague the top-performing students on campus. Once cheery and full of life, kids now appear in a “zombiefied” state – lifeless and shells of themselves. Can Daphne and Velma learn to work together and save the students or will they become the next victims? Get ready for thrills and laughs as we follow the first adventures of Mystery Inc.’s fierce female duo.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Daphne & Velma on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD on May 22, 2018.
The film stars Sarah Jeffery (Disney’s “Descendants: Wicked World”) and Sarah Gilman (ABC’s “Last Man Standing”), and is produced by Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions. Daphne & Velma will carry a suggested retail price of $19.98 for the DVD and $24.98 for the Blu-ray.
What We Thought
After getting to know a little more about Sarah Gilman during a great phone interview with some other amazing bloggers I was really excited for our oldest to see Daphne & Velma. The pure idea of this movie took me back to my childhood watching Saturday morning cartoons and wanting to share some of the same characters with Jack who is almost 5. He was excited too because he has watched what he calls “old cartoons” too. Ms. Gilman was so friendly and Jack even asked would she like to be his girlfriend during the interview. For the inquiring minds, she said yes. HA!
Our review copy of Daphne and Velma arrived on an afternoon that we had a very severe weather threat. I was trying to prepare for the storms while our boys were busy playing and trying to stay occupied. The DVD came and I honestly just sat it on our living room table and didn’t think much of it because I knew we had to get to the store to grab a few things. We had also planned to get pizza because the day was going by so fast that I didn’t take anything out for dinner.
I go into our local grocery store like a mad woman grabbing what I needed and hurrying because the skies were getting darker. The pizza was picked up and we got home just in time for the first batch of rain. Literally as I was sitting dinner plates in the sink after we ate the power went out. GREAT! I thought, this was going to be a long night. The winds picked up and the thunder was louder than usual. Frequent lightening and lots of downed power lines left our entire community without power. Panic of course ensued… no one could do anything they wanted to do and obviously with no internet I couldn’t work at all.
My light bulb turned on when I realized that my laptop was fully charged and we could pop the Daphne & Velma DVD in and watch it until the battery died, or we fell asleep.. whichever happened first. Jack got a blanket, pillows and a few stuffed animals to cuddle and we started the movie. He laughed, forgot about the disadvantages of having no power and we all had a blast watching this.
Some highlights that I would like to touch on is that this movie to me supports girl power (that is such a 90’s girl term) and the idea that this female duo is doing it all! This was entertaining not only for our Jack but also my husband and I got a kick out of it too which makes for a great family movie event.
The only thing missing for us was some popcorn to enjoy the adventure’s of Mystery Inc. Laughter, thrills and not knowing what was going to happen next made this a fun evening that could have been awful.
