Do You Want To Keep Your Skin Looking Youthful?

As we get older, our skin begins to skin and lose its youthful smoothness. This is due to the loss of collagen and elastin within the skin and is also not helped by exposure to harmful UV rays from the sun.

When it comes to keeping your skin looking youthful and protect it against sagging and wrinkles, prevention is a lot better than dealing with it when it has already happened.

#1 Protect your skin from the sun

As we mentioned above, this is a significant contributing factor to skin that looks aged before its time. Not only does protecting your skin from the sun slow down the signs of aging, but it also reduces your risk of skin cancer, which is important above everything else. Always wear adequate sun protection; remember it does not need to be hot to get sunburn – you can even get it in snowy conditions and overcast weather. When it is sunny, try to avoid being in the sun when it is at its hottest, between 11 am and 3 pm, stay in the shade as far as possible, and always wear a hat to protect your face and head.

#2 Think carefully about your skincare regime

Use the right skincare products to protect your skin from external damage and to prevent moisture loss and sagging. Leave-on exfoliants containing glycolic acid and salicylic acid are excellent for hydrating the skin while smoothing and firming it.

Niacinamide and retinol both work well to keep the skin plump and lustrous. Another essential in your skincare routine is a good moisturizer. A night cream can also help revive your skin while you sleep.

#3 Keep hydrated

One of the best things that you can do for your skin is to drink plenty of water. In fact, it is not just your skin that will thank you for it – your insides, hair, and nails will also benefit hugely from it. Aim to drink around eight to ten glasses of water a day, more if you are particularly active or it is hot.

#4 Investigate treatments and therapies

There are all sorts of treatments and therapies that can help your skin, from a surface level to much deeper. These range from IV therapy to microderbrasion and everything in between. Some are more invasive than others, but it is a great way to get youthful, glowing and healthy-feeling skin.

#5 Cut out the smoking and alcohol

Cigarettes and alcohol are two of the worst things that you can do to your skin. Smoking can cause excessive lines and wrinkling around the mouth. Alcohol can dehydrate and dry out the skin. If you do drink, make sure you have plenty of water in between and before you go to bed. It won’t only be your skin that is thankful for it!

#6 Speak To A Professional

You might also want to consider speaking to a professional if you are worried about any skin issues that you are facing, whether they are related to age or not. Dermatology services can provide advice on everything from sun damage to Botox treatment with professionals ready to answer any questions you may have.

While aging is a natural and unavoidable part of life, there are things that you can do to keep your skin looking as youthful as possible for as long as possible. Follow the steps above and people will be asking for proof of your age for many years to come.
