Fall Road Trips in Texas

Fall Road Trips in Texas

If you’ve never been to Texas before, you may just think it’s a giant dustbowl of a desert. There you’d be wrong. Texas is a diverse and dynamic landscape, and offers fantastic road trip choices in the fall. Here we will explore several places that are perfect autumn adventures, using Houston as your base.

Pineywoods Autumn Trail

A couple of hours north of Houston you will find Palestine, TX. From here starts a 145-mile stretch of road offering vivid autumn colors exploding from the stunning foliage. New England doesn’t have a monopoly on foliage scenery you know! The route offers plenty of scenic stops like the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, Lake Athens, Tara Vineyard and Winery and the East Texas Arboretum.

Austin — Festival Town

Drive just under three hours from Houston and you’ll reach Austin. First head west, and then northwest after Columbus. Why is it a good place to go in the fall? How about the Austin City Limits Music Festival – that’s happening on October 4, or the 3rd Annual Fall Festival later in October on the 26th, which is the same day as the Texas Book Festival. Load the family into the car and relish the end of the sweltering summer temperatures with a fun-filled day in Austin.

Go for a Classic – Drive-in Theater

If you don’t have all day or night to drive further afield, a 30-minute trip to the Showboat Drive-in Theater is a good substitute. No indoor theater could hope to match the majesty of watching some blockbuster hits under the stars themselves, nestled int the comfort of your own car. Nothing compares. Load up the picnic and head to the theater!

Lost Maples (longer trip)

If you do have more time to dedicate to a road trip, then take the car up to Lost Maples in Central Texas. Like Pineywoods, it’s another fantastic place to enjoy the fall colors, but with the added drama of steep canyon walls sand the serene Sabinal River. The main attraction, of course, are the Uvalde bigtooth maples, which give the place its name. You’ll be glad to put in the extra miles when you get to see this amazing location.

Any road trip needs the ideal car to match. You need storage, seating space, reliability and good gas mileage. If you think you need a new vehicle to make new family road trip memories, visit our dealership and see what we have on offer.
