The Little Details That Matter
What is it that makes an outfit truly unique? In today’s mass market society it can be pretty hard to express yourself fully through the medium of clothing. It’s ironic really, as the fashion industry is one of the largest in the world, with so many designers and creators collaborating to produce amazing collections. But what actually ends up forming trends can be quite limited, and trends are what we see in our malls and stores. There’s nothing wrong, of course, with wanting to follow trends, but most of us want to avoid looking completely like everyone else. One easy way to do this is to add little details to your outfits, which make the whole ensemble more interesting and eye-catching, Here are some easy ways you can add elegant and intriguing detail to the everyday outfit.
A belt
Belts are a versatile way to pull an outfit together, both literally and figuratively. For example, if you are wearing a top and a skirt that are made up of block colors, a standout belt can help to break up the clash. Plus, a waist belt is a great way to accentuate an hourglass figure, if you are lucky enough to have one. You can also use a belt to add a specific kind of vibe to what you are wearing. Western buckles and concho-style belts have been very popular over the last season, and look great paired with a pair of skinny jeans and a vintage band shirt.
Shoes
Many of us think of our shoes as something that needs to compliment the outfit we are wearing – not the other way around. But shoes can easily be used to brighten up an otherwise dull outfit, so let your feet do the talking! If you are wearing a particularly plain outfit, such as a white shirt and black A-line skirt combo (perhaps for work), why not add some leopard-print ankle boots to bring a bit of sparkle to the ensemble? Just a little touch like this can make all the difference, while still not being overbearing.
Jewelry
Feminizing an outfit isn’t always easy – but why shouldn’t you be able to add a bit of glam to the everyday? Even subtle jewelry can easily upgrade your look from drab to fab. The key is to focus on one area at a time – if you are going to sport multiple gothic rings, for example, keep the other jewelry you wear to a minimum. Stud earrings and a plain choker will compliment the look much better than trying to weigh yourself down with as much jewelry as possible.
Hats
Hats are one of those inventions that can save a multitude of sins. In fact, every woman should have a selection in her closet. Beanie-style hats are great for cold days where practicality is key and can give your outfit a cool urban look (even if all the hat is really there for is to hide a bad hair day!). Wide brim floppy hats and fedoras are some other styles that can add a bit of edge to an otherwise uninteresting outfit, so invest in a selection if you don’t have some already.
