Self Care Practices During the Pandemic

During a time of extreme uncertainty with what is going on in the world, looking after yourself may be that last thing on your mind when there’s so many other things to consider.

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t simple things you and your family can do in order to make your lives a little easier and more healthy in the long term.

Some things you can do are very widely used practices but can help to keep the spread of COVID-19 at a minimum. Others may, over time, become some fun family projects that you can all do to remember the strange times that we have been living in for almost a year now.

Here are some of them.

Common Care practices

Wash your hands frequently. This is something that we should be doing anyway, but since antibacterial soap and handwashing is known to slow the spread of COVID-19 it is a great reminder to do so. Hand sanitizer is a great alternative to use when there’s no soap or water around.

Make sure to wipe down all common household surfaces such as the kitchen counters, light switches, door handles, and other high traffic areas.

Any packages or groceries coming into your home should be disinfected before being put away.

Last but not the least, visit dental experts like this dentist in gloucester for your dental evaluation. Your oral health plays an important role in your overall health and, thus, must be maintained in good condition. If you’re unable to personally visit a clinic, you can check with your dentist if they do online consultations.

Self Care for the Family

During these times it may be the case that anxiety levels are high. It is therefore important to provide a calm space for your children. There’s a lot to process so it’s important to Talk to the kids about their feelings- giving them a name gives them a connection to what they are. Make sure that you are honest with your children when you are feeling anxious about things too.

Create a good daily routine. Structure is key as it would be under normal circumstances. Make the time for snacks and exercise.

Positive Affirmations

One of the best things about being able to spend more time with our families is seeing the things that you wouldn’t usually. You will see them solve problems in real time and learn new things as they go. It is important to let them know that you recognize their achievements. Maybe consider handing out weekly rewards for their good work or for being kind. Kids need to know when they’re doing well, and that is especially important when the world feels a little different.

Family Activities At Home

Most of us are acutely aware of the things that do and don’t work for our families by now. But kids grow and learn so quickly that there may be certain things that they’re just no longer into.

Why not host a family game or quiz night?

Have family cooking challenges to see who can bake the best banana bread or tamale pie. Judge it as you would see on cooking shows.

Quiet Time

It doesn’t have to be all ‘go’ all the time. Sometimes you just need to take a little time to relax  and recharge. Run yourself a bath and listen to music or watch a show as you soak.

Remember that being kind to others can only happen when you’ve taken the time to be kinder to yourself
