Smart Devices in Our Homes

Smart Devices in Our Homes

Recently we just discovered the joys of having an Alexa enabled device in our home and it has really made me question the usage of smart technology inside not only our home but homes across America. Devices are making our days easier by the minute and serving as a secondary brain for busy people who just need a reminder for certain things.

Having the Alexa device has allowed me to find out sports scores for games that are not televised, weather, we have played family games, gotten important reminders for upcoming events and even played some of the best cleaning music that I have had in awhile. This device is one of those things that I didn’t know we were missing out on until we had it and now one that I don’t think I will ever be without because simply saying “Alexa…” has provided us with hours of entertainment and adventure.

I tend to follow the internet and read blogs about technology and other things related to smart devices. I discovered Sean Seshadri who talks literally everything tech. This helps me when deciding which device that we need in our homes next.

What smart devices do you have in your home? We have used smart light bulbs recently and love the ability to control the lights in multiple rooms with just a cell phone app. This is one of those things that we have used to play pranks on friends and family when they come over for a visit which gets a good laugh. I love being able to dim and brighten the rooms as well.

This holiday season we also got to test out a smart camera (a great nanny cam) to keep an eye on our kids while they play in their bedroom while I am working and also on our dog when we are not home. I love the ability to use my cell phone to communicate with the dog and make her feel more at ease when her anxiety is sky high.

The next device to enter our home is going to be a smart plug. I have done a lot of research on these and love that they are so versatile these days. I first saw the plug with a USB outlet and thought that was too good to be true and since then technology has advanced so far that the idea of a smart plug just seems amazing.

Televisions, cell phones, computers and even remotes have all gone “smart” and while we may often feel like technology is moving faster than we can keep up I am confident that we are moving in such a great direction in all things tech and I can’t wait to see what comes up next.

The sky’s the limit these days and while often older people often struggle with new technology I am seeing that even they are embracing some of the smart devices to make life easier.
