One of my favorite childhood memories from Christmastime was baking cookies. A tradition I have strived to pass along to my children is baking homemade cookies to share with friends, family and Santa! Over the years I’ve struggled to continue that tradition and maintain a smile on my face. Without fail every December my children begin to anticipate our annual cookie baking day. In recent years I found myself groaning at the thought of it. The rush to gather ingredients from the overcrowded, hectic grocery stores was never on my list of favorite things. Not to mention the huge mess that comes along with little hands helping to measure the sugar and flour. I love the homemade, from scratch fresh cookies but not the chaos that comes along with them!
The Mason Jar Cookie Company offers products that eliminate the need to head out to the grocery store to gather the necessary ingredients to make the tastiest Christmas cookies. Their pre-measured ingredients packed into one mess-free jar insures I won’t have a pound of flour dumped on my kitchen counter! No more sticky sugar on the floor! I was able to enjoy the baking process while my youngest was able to be very hands-on in helping bake! The only thing that needed cleaning in the end was our hands and the dishes used to mix up the dough! Another HUGE plus in my book was the fact that it took roughly 20 minutes from the time we pulled the items needed out to the time we were able to eat a fresh, made-from-scratch cookie (not including the time it took to preheat the oven)!
We decided to give the O! Christmas Tree Cookie Mix a try. This mix contains the ingredients necessary for the traditional sugar cookie along with festive Christmas tree sprinkles and premium white chocolate chips. All I needed to add was 1/2 cup (one stick) of melted butter, one egg and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
The directions on the back of the jar are so easy that my five-year-old had no trouble following them! With my help, Molleigh mixed the egg, butter and vanilla together in a small mixing bowl. I emptied the ingredients from the jar into a separate bowl and Molleigh broke apart the chunks. It is normal for high quality brown sugar to harden. The suggestion on the back of the jar said to place the jar, without the top, into the microwave for approximately 20 seconds. After microwaving for 20 seconds I was able to dump the sugar into the bowl and Molleigh continued to break up the chunks. Once we had the dry ingredients out of the jar and all of the chunks separated, we mixed in the butter, egg and vanilla from the other bowl. We don’t like to get our hands too messy so we used a heavy duty spatula to combine all of the ingredients instead of using our hands! The dough didn’t take long to mix into the perfect consistency.
Using a soup spoon to measure out the dough we rolled it into approximately 1″ balls and placed them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Another great bonus was the dough didn’t stick to our hands creating a big sticky mess! Woohoo!
With just ONE jar of The Mason Jar Cookie Company mix we made 25 cookies! Check out that smile! She felt accomplished, I was thrilled there wasn’t a giant mess left after prepping the dough AND we had plenty of cookies to share with leftovers for us to enjoy!
12 minutes in an oven pre-heated at 350 degrees led to soft baked, mouthwatering Christmas cookies that I was proud to share with our sweet neighbors!
In our family we strive to make the Christmas season about giving. Whether it’s giving our time by volunteering, giving gifts to loved ones or giving made-with-love sweet treats to a special someone I want my children to enjoy giving more than receiving.
The jar of Christmas cookie mix we received from The Mason Jar Cookie Company made giving homemade treats FUN and SIMPLE! I used some clear treat bags and ribbon I already had on hand to package the cookies we intended for our neighbors. In no time we had fun treats to disperse to the neighborhood.
I actually re-purposed the mason jar that the cookie mix came in. While I was waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven I removed the ingredient/direction label using dish soap and rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol makes removing the sticky film left from the label quick and easy. I slid a few cookies down into the jar and re-attached the original tag creating a simple gift for a dear friend who has gone above and beyond for our family in recent weeks!
Molleigh grabbed a handful of the cookie packages and off we went to deliver some pre-Thanksgiving, Christmas cheer to the neighborhood.
Overall, I give The Mason Jar Cookie Company 5 out of 5 stars!
