The Taste of Real Barbecue from Cookshack
Review Plus Recipe
We have been manufacturing Smokers for over 50 years in Ponca City, OK…..Cookshack’s philosophy is a reflection of its origins as a small, family owned business. The company provides a good product at a fair price. We have a strong work ethic and we believe that the customer is (almost) always right. We do our best to provide excellent customer service by telephone, e-mail, social media, and our website. Cookshack products are made in the USA, and always have been.
What we received :
Cookshack sent us a selection of their products for the purpose of this review. The package included spice rubs and BBQ sauce. These particular products range in price from about $3-9 in containers about 10-18oz.
Brisket Rub– A smokey blend of spices that can be used to infuse flavor into brisket or any cut of meat. I like that the flavor of this rub is not overly smokey as I expected it to be. It has a nice balance.
Rib Rub– Perfect for pork ribs, we used this rub on our ribs the night before and then reapplied a small amount ( just sprinkled) before putting in the oven. About 15 mins before they were done, we applied the Cookshack BBQ sauce. I like that this rub is not spicy, but is bold.
Spicy Chicken Rub- This is my favorite. This rub is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I am not sure how many times my husband said ” this is good, really good” during our meal. I rubbed this into boneless, skinless chicken thighs about 15 minutes before grilling. Then cooked fast on medium high to get a nice char and keep them juicy. See the full recipe below. The level of spice is perfect, not too hot but enough that you know there is heat.
Chili Mix- I make homemade chili often and one thing that irritates me is that I never seem to be able to get enough flavor out of my chili powder. I started buying a chili seasoning packet to have on hand. This Chili mix replaces all of the spices I would normally need. Homemade chili just got a lot easier. This will last a long time because it does not take much for a full pot.
Spicy Barbecue Sauce- This BBQ sauce is what I consider a REAL BBQ sauce. It has a ton of flavor and though it says SPICY, it is not really that hot. The kick seems to come more from spices and not really like chile pepper hot. Made from a 40 yr old recipe and used in their own restaurants, Cookshack hit this nail right on the head.
All the Rubs and Sauces are free of MSG ! I was am usually afraid to try pre-mixed seasonings because they are usually too salty. These were not.
I am glad we were able to try these, the fact that they are MSG free is huge. The containers are big, so the product will last awhile. The spice is a good balance with the sweet of some of the rubs. No overwhelming smokey flavor, but enough. We found that the Spicy products were not overly hot, but just right. We would absolutely purchase these to use again.

I really wish I had taken a picture of this sandwich. I decided to post the recipe as I was writing this review, so unfortunately I do not have one. I will update this post with an image next time I make it. Which will probably be soon, since I was drooling while writing it.
