My Thoughts on Artificial Intelligence
Have you ever wondered if you could be replaced by a robot or a computer? I know that often people in certain job positions such as factory or restaurant trades wonder this a lot. People get anxious and share their thoughts about their theories on social media often in relation to this. In the same times though people often say they want more money as fast food or factory work because they are working hard while still having the fear that they will be replaced by a touch screen computer or a robot style worker.
Andrew Charlton said it best in a recent article that discusses why machines/robots will not cause mass unemployment. “Automation isn’t a force we can stop.” I feel that while yes some places will have more computer related technology when it comes to jobs at the end of the day a machine can’t make my burger, at least not at this time. It takes a real person to make sure that my cheese, mayo, ketchup and beloved pickle are on the bun. Just because a machine takes the order and even the money in some places they will never replace the human in most situations.
In 2015 an internet rumor (SHOCKER!!) came out that a McDonald’s in Phoenix was being completely run by robots. The rumor was debunked quickly but it does resurface as most internet rumors do from time to time.
I do feel the in some situations that robots would make jobs easier, while not replacing human interaction it would reduce the wear and tear on the human body. My husband worked in a distribution center for awhile several years ago and the physical strain that it took on his body was immense. I could not believe the amount of work that people were doing with limited resources and believe me, it made me respect the way that foods and other goods are delivered to stores. In work environments like that I feel that a robot could certainly help even with packing boxes or other tasks.
If you are looking to learn more about technology and other trade related information check out Andrew Charlton on the web and in the meantime drop a comment below and let me know your thoughts on artificial intelligence (a.i.) and how you feel that it will change the world we live in within the coming years. I would love to know what other people think about this topic as it is something that has always interested me beyond what we see on television and in movies.
