No matter what it is, the sooner you get yourself into a productive mindset, the better. You will soon find that being more organised will help you to be more motivated and you will get through your to do list much quicker than you would have been able to otherwise. Many things can hinder our productivity, from our mindsets to the place we are trying to work in, so by addressing these, you can soon find big improvements can take place. Here we take a look at some top tips to help you be more productive that should have you feeling better in no time and able to get a lot more done.
Be tidy and organised – ensure everything has its place
A messy environment can mean a messy mind and when you have a list to slog through, this is the last thing you could want. Instead, make sure the space you are looking to work or focus in is clear of clutter and has room for you to really concentrate. Make sure that everything has its own place and that you have more than enough storage. You could use drawer dividers and label everything to ensure it all has an easy process that works. If you work from home, you should have a dedicated space where you can pick up your work in the morning and put it down at the end of the day. You don’t want somewhere packed with family items, having to juggle around your child’s highchair and breakfast items in the kitchen. Instead, you want a spot in your home that can be solely for work.
Tidy up your laptop or phone
While you need a tidy desk space to work, the device that you work on should also be as de-cluttered as possible for you to work efficiently. If you find that your laptop is packed with documents shared in random places, the storage is full and there is no logic, you won’t be able to find what you’re looking for and it can hinder your productivity. To combat this, have a good sort out of your folders, store things on the cloud, and have logical paths that your documents are saved into. A cluttered computer can also lead to viruses being installed that you might not realise. It’s good to educate yourself on what is ransomware so you can spot the signs and get a good anti-virus to get rid of it.
Write realistic to-do lists
While a to-do list might seem simple, it’s important that you do it in a logical way. To do lists should detail all you need to get through, but also list out the largest tasks first or those that you find the most challenging. It can be tempting to do the things you find easiest first, but actually you will be a lot more productive if you combat the difficult ones first. Work out how long each task should take and be careful not to overwhelm yourself with too much work. You want it to be realistic to achieve.
Give yourself down time too
While you want to be productive when doing work, you also need to give yourself time to recharge and recuperate. If you don’t do this, you will soon find that your brain is overworked and overstimulated, making your work slow and sluggish. You can do yourself a favour by giving yourself regular breaks such as at lunchtime or finishing work at a reasonable hour. Be sure to do things you find fun or relaxing such as taking a bubble bath, going for a walk with a friend, or doing some baking. No matter what it is, you want something that will make you happy and give yourself a mental break in your day.
These are just a few things that you can do to be more productive. Productivity can help you in many aspects of your life and you will find that soon things fall into place. Once you take care of your physical space and your mental health you will find it much easier to get motivated to complete tasks and do the things you need to do.
