Your Favorite Foods As Chips Herr’s Review

Their motto :  “Live Life With Flavor”  and they sure do !   We recently tried an assortment of Herr’s Chips and Cheese Curls and they are by far like no other chip I have had.

First let me tell you a little about Herr’s, I love this story –

Herr’s Foods was started back in 1946 by a 21yr old young man named James Stauffer Herr.  He started out by first purchasing a small potato chip company and then soon after moved to an old tobacco shed on his family’s property.  A few years later after testing out cooking procedures and flavors he rented a house with a bakery, unfortunately a fire claimed the property and he started from square one building a new facility and buying more equipment.  From there the company continued to grow and decided to finally add seasoning to their chips.  Did you  know that Barbecue was the first flavored chip they produced?  Yep, in 1958.   Now today Herr’s produces everything from the traditional Plain chip to even flavors like Sloppy Joe !    Read their full timeline here:  About Herr’s

Here is the assortment we tried:

  • Sweet Onion
  • Hotdog
  • Sweet Corn
  • Baby Back Ribs
  • Ragin Ranch
  • Buffalo & Blue Cheese Curls
  • Jalapeno Popper Cheese Curls

Sounds crazy right?  Well,  that was my initial thought and because I was a bit nervous , I tried the Jalapeno Poppers first.  I love cheddar poppers so figured I had to like these.  I was right!  They are so good. They have everything that I like about a Jalapeno Popper,  the heat, the cheddar flavor and it absolutely takes care of your snack craving.

Hotdog was next…. my first thought was “how is this going to taste like a hotdog?”  I figured it had to be bad. It wasn’t. Nope. Not AT ALL.   I was figuring it would taste like the meat of the hotdog, but these chips are flavored to taste like EVERYTHING about a hotdog.  The dog, the bread, mustard, relish, ketchup. Everything.  It literally tasted like I had just taken a bite of a fully dressed hotdog.  AMAZING.   They were really good, I am impressed.

More about the flavors-  Sweet Onion, delicious. Sweet Corn, like you were eating sweet buttery corn on the cob. I have not tried Ranch yet but  at this point I even tried the Buffalo & Blue Cheese… bad idea. I still hate blue cheese,  however for people who DO like Buffalo & Blue Cheese, you would love them.    They are spot on with the flavor. I never would have thought that these chips would have such huge flavor.  One thing I noticed was the salt level is, again also spot on.

Now, putting aside Herr’s ability to produce a chip that tastes precisely as its inspiration,  let’s talk about quality.  The chips are  big, thick hearty chips that can handle being carried home from the grocery store without being reduced to crumb. The packaging bag is very high quality,  easy to open and thick.  You will not find yourself accidentally ripping this bag all the way down the side.
