About Zoo Med’s Mini Mealies

Zoo Med Can O’ Mini Mealies Reptile & Bird Food is the latest in reptile nutrition and convenience. Feeder insects are cooked in the can to lock in flavor and freshness. This process softens the exoskeleton for easier digestion. These small mealworms are ideal for small lizards, turtles, amphibians, tropical fish and birds as well as small animals. Every can is filled with over 1,500 small mealworms. It’s a much more convenient way to feed your pet than having to store live insects until mealtime.

What We Thought

A few weeks ago we had a chicken disaster here at our house. The chickens escaped and we had no idea how we were going to get them back in their coop. The birds went every way except towards their coop and the later in the evening that it got the more panicked I became.

We had put fresh fruit in the coop, extra scratch grain, an extra gallon of water and we watched and waited very impatiently for them to make their way back “home” but nothing happened.

These birds are relatively new here as we have only had them a few weeks and I got very nervous thinking that my back yard treasures were going to be injured or hurt by another animal.

In the days before this incident happened we received the Zoo Med’s Mini Mealies and while typically meal worms are given to reptiles, I knew from past experience that chickens love meal worms as well. We had purchased them in dry form, but I thought it was absolutely worth a try to get them back into the coop.

I popped the can and immediately knew that the girls were going to come running and they did. Thank you to Zoo Med and your amazing can of worms because without you I don’t know what we would have done. The girls devoured the can and while that may not have been ideal, they were inside their coop where they were safe and sound and I closed the door behind them.

$4.99 well spent for chicken lovers like me who may find themselves in a real situation and need to lure your girls in quickly!
