Practical Ways To Make Pregnancy More Manageable

Pregnancy can be a magical experience, but it’s almost always a roller coaster ride. Every journey is unique, but most people have one thing in common: highs and lows. When you carry a baby, your body goes through incredible, dramatic changes that impact you mentally and physically. There’s no way to prepare fully for the nine months that await, but there are steps you can take to reduce stress, make the experience easier and more enjoyable, and save you time and effort. In this guide, we’ll outline some practical ways to make your pregnancy more manageable.

Manage your expectations

We all have perceptions and views of pregnancy before we see that dark line and embark upon the journey ourselves. We are influenced and shaped by people we know, movies, social media, and many other sources. It’s crucial to remember that everyone is different and no two pregnancies are the same. Some people will rave about being pregnant, while others will reel off relentless horror stories. It’s important to manage your expectations when you’re expecting. Try to avoid following social media accounts that paint unrealistic pictures or present a rose-tinted vision of pregnancy and motherhood, and focus on your own experience. Take each day as it comes, listen to your body, and be realistic about what you can do or achieve at certain times.

Get comfortable

Being comfortable is key when you’re pregnant. From the early days when you may be feeling exhausted or suffering from nausea to the final stages when it’s difficult to walk or find a sleeping position, comfort is king.

Finding clothes that make you feel good is a great way to enhance comfort and boost your confidence. It’s an excellent idea to look for outfits and individual pieces from brands and collections that specialize in maternity wear. You can search online for specific items or use search engines to find brands or shops close to you. You can find Australian maternity clothes, nursing bras, event attire or everyday loungewear at the touch of a button. It’s also worth reviewing your wardrobe and seeing what will work for you. If you’re pregnant during the summer months, for example, floaty dresses are ideal for staying cool and avoiding any pressure or tightness around your tummy.

Another step to optimize comfort when you’re pregnant is to invest in a pregnancy pillow or cushion you can use in bed or when chilling out on the sofa. It’s also beneficial to make sure your mattress and pillows offer the support you need.

Simplify your schedule

Most people feel more tired when they’re pregnant. It’s also common to experience other symptoms that can make even the most basic daily tasks feel like a challenge. Examples include back pain, swollen ankles and feet, heartburn, and sleep troubles. Simplifying your schedule can help you manage your time effectively and avoid doing too much.

It’s wise to manage work in line with how you feel. If you’re struggling, talk to your employer and look for ways to lighten the load. Perhaps you could work from home more frequently or reduce your workload, for example. It’s also beneficial to be realistic about social commitments. You don’t have to say ‘yes’ to every invitation. If you want to see friends and family members, keep things simple. Instead of planning big nights out or weekends away that involve traveling long distances, get together at somebody’s house for a pamper night, go to the movies, catch up over a mocktail or go for a gentle stroll.

Pregnancy is a life-changing experience. There is no doubt that it can be magical, but it can also take its toll on your body and mind. It’s impossible to know what’s in store until you go through that journey, but there are ways to prepare. Practical steps include managing your expectations, being proactive in prioritizing comfort, and simplifying your schedule.
