How To

The Little Touches That Will Make Your Home Unique

When you look around your home, do you love what you see? Is your home the space that you always dreamed it would be? Or does it lack that little something? If when you look around your home, you feel like it lacks something you can’t put your finger on what it is, don’t panic.

The chances are that the thing that you are lacking is uniqueness. Look around your home and consider whether it’s as unique and personalised as it could be, or whether there’s more that you could do to mix up the design and style of the space and put your own stamp on it.
To help you to do that, below are a few tips and ideas to take note of and implement.

Choose furniture that’s different to the norm

Don’t be afraid to pick pieces of furniture that are different to the norm. Instead of picking pieces that come from furniture stores where everyone else shops, look for independent stores that only sell a couple of each item. That way you can ensure that your home really is unique, as you won’t end up having the same furniture that everyone else has. Look for pieces that have a unique shape or style to them – don’t be afraid to invest in pieces that are different. (For this, antique or second-hand pieces can be good.) Tables that are odd shapes – aka hexagonal instead of round or square, a couch design that’s distinctly different, and shelving that’s unlike the styles you usually see – are all ideal ways to give your home a unique look and feel.

Select unique accents

When it comes to giving your home a unique vibe, selecting accent pieces that are different is a must. This means being choosy about where you buy from and the types of pieces you select. It’s the same as choosing furniture – if you buy from where everyone else buys from you are going to end up with a home that resembles everyone else’s. Whereas if you select pieces from an independent store, then you can ensure that they are different to the norm. For instance, say you find a store selling authentic Japanese ceramic bowls, adding these as an accent piece to an area of your home could make a big difference to how unique the space looks. It’s amazing how one accent piece can make all the difference to the look and feel of the space.

Create a space that you love

You’ve probably heard this time and time again, but I’ll say it one more time – your home should be a space that you love. This means that when it comes to adding a little uniqueness to your home, it’s important to take your personal tastes into account. Think about your preferred design style, shades and tones of choice, and the style features that you prefer. Your home should be somewhere that is designed in a style that appeals to you and that you love, and it’s important to remember that. Yes, it’s also important that it’s a unique space, but it would be a mistake to choose uniqueness over your own style preferences.

So there you have it, a guide to the little touches that will make your home unique.
