What We Thought: Actual writing has gone by the wayside since internet use has risen. When Social Media became popular and e-vites were more and more popular people literally stopped writing.

One thing I miss so much about my Grandma is that she ALWAYS wrote letters. She wrote notes, sent cards for every occasion and no matter what the situation you would bet that there would be a message in the mailbox from her.

Calligraphy was something I first saw from my Mom. She had a set with special paper and pens that I literally was envious of. This was known as “grown up stuff” and we were not allowed to play with it because it was expensive. Since seeing that stuff I always wanted to learn calligraphy.

Simply Calligraphy is a great book to teach you just about everything you need to know and honestly I have found that this book has very easy to follow. It not only teaches the art of calligraphy but also different flourishes to make writing something that can be just yours. I love that part because I prefer to stand out instead of just doing this to match everyone else.

Judy Detrick did an amazing job with this book and it will be a treasured book in our home for many years to come.
